OK, we have a vacancy on the Supreme Court. Clearly we have to mobilize around that. I have nothing to add to the thousands of posts on the thousands of threads on that subject.
BUT -- Does it mean we drop everything else? Maybe it's stating the obvious, but it is doubly, triply important that we stop, look, and listen for the Bush orcs to sneak something under the radar while we're distracted with speculation over who might replace O'Connor.
What about CAFTA? We need an all-out blitz on our House members to kill this thing. What about the hundreds of other issues, on the national, state, and local scene, that also need our immediate attention?
We can walk and chew gum at the same time, folks. Let's not get distracted from the battle on all fronts.
Let's not get sucked into being spectators. The successor to O'Connor is as important as it gets, but so are a lot of other things.
